FEATURED UPCOMING EVENT

🎥 July 24 webinar - Gradle Build Cache: Deliver faster by doing less

If it’s too hot outside, join us for a summer webinar!

In this talk with Oleg Nenashev and Laura Kassovic, we'll discuss how Gradle's build cache can help you cut down your build times by reusing task outputs from previous runs.

When you're running dozens of tests, compiling thousands of classes, or pushing changes through CI multiple times a day, build performance matters. Are you using build caching to its fullest potential in your organization?

Join us to see real-world examples from open source projects that are using a free Gradle-sponsored Develocity instance to leverage local and distributed caching. We'll also share pointers for developers looking to level up their Gradle Build Tool skills, such as how to get certified with the help of DPE University. Specific topics include:

  • The basics of local build caching—how it works, key aspects for build and test avoidance provided by Gradle, and how to analyze and maximize the cache hits.

  • The tools provided by Gradle, including recently introduced features offering better analytics.

  • Remote build caching with Develocity Build Cache, and how to share cached outputs across machines to speed up both CI pipelines and day-to-day development workflows.

We hope to see you there!

IDEAS & INSIGHTS

Developer Joy: A Better Way to Boost Developer Productivity

In one of the best teamups since Barbie and Oppenheimer, Trisha Gee (Head of Advocacy at Gradle) and Holly Cummins, Ph.D. (Senior Principal Software Engineer at Red Hat) continue their mission to bring the joy of development back to….well, development.

This InfoQ article summarizes their simple premise nicely: developer joy and developer productivity don’t have to oppose each other. They aren’t mutually exclusive or binary in the way some people may think.

In multiple talks, including at Devoxx and QCon, Trisha and Holly have been pitching this approach to the productivity/joy balance. As Trisha puts it:

“We wanted to explore this idea of how coding is (generally) fun for developers, or was at the start, and that's why we got into the game. We wanted to explore why coding is NOT fun at work, and the impact that has on our productivity. Or, more accurately, how the friction and productivity blockers are part of the reason we don't have fun at work."

BEST PRACTICES

Download: GenAI Won’t Replace Your Continuous Delivery Pipeline—It Will Stress It

GenAI is great for accelerating coding and experimentation; however, it also introduces challenges to code quality and comprehension, batch sizing, pipeline friction, troubleshooting complexity, and regulatory compliance.

In this new whitepaper by Gradle creator Hans Dockter, we examine GenAI’s impacts and limitations across software delivery, highlighting the necessity of reliable and robust testing, human oversight, efficient CI/CD pipelines, and rigorous security practices.

Learn more about:

  • The limitations of GenAI

  • Why testing is a must

  • Balancing human and AI-driven development

  • The importance of DORA and CD practices

  • Artifact provenance and quality gates
